The Magic of Christmas – and the Promise of 2019!

92 and Playing the Kazoo

The Newport Sunshine Initiative held its Christmas Party and guess who stole the show. My dear friend, Roy Malool. 92 years old and plays the kazoo. But much more than that. Of the 75 or so attendees at the party, there were approximately twenty children – and Roy brought kazoos for all of them. Plus taught them how to play the kazoos ….really loud! It was awesome! I sure hope I can be having that much fun when I’m 92.

But it doesn’t stop there. Since we began the Sunshine Initiative earlier this year, Roy has been right at the forefront, attending every meeting, leading the charge on making things happen and immensely generous in all ways. He continues as the active President of Roymal, an innovative coatings business with global reach and located right in Newport. Hats off to Roy Malool.

Meanwhile – Santa Made It to the Party

I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of anything sweeter or more fun than watching young children get to meet and talk with Santa Claus. Basically, these are pure moments of magic!

2019 – We Begin the World Anew

As one year comes to a close and another year opens, it’s a time to reflect as well as a time to plan for the future. As I look back on 2018, I think good thoughts. So many Americans back at work – engaged in productive, exciting ventures. And, a world that has been largely at peace – thanks to the sacrifices of our men and women in the military who get up every day committed to protecting our dearest treasure – our freedom as Americans.

But there is much work yet to be done. We aspire to a world where every child can dream and everyone can enjoy the freedom to pursue worthwhile goals – with eagerness, excitement and optimism.

Thankfully, as we look out toward 2019, we have the opportunity to take meaningful steps in such a direction. Remembering that we are all precious, unique individuals. Each with enormous potential. And able to tap into the power of the human spirit - seeking growth and a life with purpose and meaning. Growing as individuals, loving our families, and contributing to our communities as well as the greater world around us.

So, as we each go thru the ritual of New Year’s resolutions, let’s take a moment and feel a sense of gratitude. One of the most important of all the emotions. Giving thanks to all the good of 2018 and committing to an even better 2019! It’s going to be a truly GREAT year!

Quote of the Week:

(From one our quite under appreciated Presidents)

-Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas. Calvin Coolidge
